The Illinois State Military Museum opened its first exhibition on December 1. The 700 square feet of newly created exhibit space will be used to display many never before exhibited artifacts of the re-organized Museum. General John A."Black Jack" Logan will be the subject of the upcoming exhibit. A number of themes will be explored regarding the military and political career of this highly controversial figure. Logan's role in the Mexican and the Civil Wars, as well as his activities with the Grand Army of the Republic are topics of the exhibit. His political career, with its roots in the Democratic Pary and anti-abolitionism to his later dramatic shift to the Republican Party, will also be examined

The exhibition is open to the public and is scheduled to run through May of 1996.

The Museum is located at Camp Lincoln, 1301 N. MacArthur Blvd., Barracks Building #41, in Springfield. For visiting hours contact the Museum at 217/782-9365.
