Lee County, Illinois, USA

Named for Richard Henry Lee

Richard Henry Lee (1732-1794) was an an orator and statesman. He was a member of the Continental Congress and signed the Declaration of Independence. He served as a US Senator from Virginia.

Established in 1839

The area which is now Lee County was part of Bond and Clark Counties when Illinois became a state in 1818. In 1825, the area was part of Putnam County. In 1836, present day Lee County was part of Ogle County.
